Jaguars Week 2 preseason TV ratings are lacking

The Jaguars have had a rocky preseason and the buzz around the team is waning along with the television ratings for the Jaguars preseason games this year.

Last week’s preseason game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers delivered a total live audience (TV and streaming) of 3,219,000 viewers across ESPN and ESPN Deportes, according to ESPN.

The game marks the lowest rated preseason game on national television, excluding NFL Network, since a tape-delayed Falcons-Colts matchup on ESPN in 2005. The ratings slump could have been impacted by two of the Jaguars most talented young players not competing versus the Buccaneers, Leonard Fournette and Jalen Ramsey.

Numbers for this week’s matchup versus the Carolina Panthers won’t be available until early next week.

The game finished with a 1.6 HH rating and helped ESPN win the night among all networks (broadcast or cable) in all key male demos (18-34, 18-49 and 25-54).

In Jacksonville, the game delivered a 5.8 rating on ESPN and a 9.6 rating on WJXX-ABC, for a combined 15.4 rating in the market. In Tampa, the game delivered a 5.6 rating on ESPN and a 6.8 rating on WMOR-WB, for a combined 12.5 rating in the market.

In addition to the ratings low, Tampa Bay’s win was the least-watched preseason game on national TV, excluding NFL Network, in at least a decade. The previous low was 2.8 million for another Jacksonville game, against Washington on NBC in 2008 (2.8 million viewers).

The Jaguars final preseason game is Thursday, on the road, versus the Atlanta Falcons at 7 pm.
